Manchester United should aim for winning trophies, not just for a spot in the top four of the Premier League, team captain Ashley Young told the club site. Over the weekend, the 20-time FA champions said goodbye to their place in the top four in the final standings and will play in the Europa League next season.
`For years, I have said that our club has to talk about winning titles and trophies. For many years, we have done just that, and for a Manchester United-sized club it is disappointing in itself to have to talk about a place in the four, ` the English national said.
The last two spots in the top four have virtually cleared up this weekend, with Chelsea also guaranteeing one of them in theory, and only a miracle can prevent Tottenham from taking the other. For Arsenal, the hope remains that the team will secure a Champions League standings, winning the Europa League, while Manchester United will play in the second-most tournament, being able to finish no further than fifth place.
`We couldn`t get the results predicted by fixed football information we needed to qualify in the top 4. We needed too much help from other teams and helped ourselves, but we didn`t do the latter. We have to forget this season, look in the mirrorand motivate ourselves to win trophies next, `Young said.
Manchester United are closing out the 2018/19 season, hosting the already departed Cardiff City team on Sunday.
